Black Book of Blind

Art is about new ideas, experiments. So I was watching the #ArtAssignment about “Make a Book with Meat” and thinking about the way we see everyday objects and never question their existence. Suddenly, it came to me that “normal” books are only for people who can see. If you are for example blind, then without the Braille alphabet all regular books are as useless for you as a book with black pages and black text.⠀
So I asked myself how the world would literally look like for blind people if there were no alternatives. This is the visualization of the Black Book of Blind: A black book with a black cover, black pages and black text. I think it is also the representation of blindness as in ignorance, lack of perception and awareness of everyday struggles of others.⠀
The experiment also made me think how important the sight for many artists is and how scary the world would look like without it. By the way, a local tip for tourists in Hamburg, check the excursion called “Dialog im Dunkeln” for a short journey in the world of darkness. It is one of a kind experience. ⠀

BEHIND THE CURTAIN

There is always something fascinating behind the imaginative process and creativity of artists. It looks like a veil or heavy stage curtains that might open up to a new scene, idea, moment or a thought… Any second… Now…

Behind the Curtain is a painting from 2020 series The beauty of mind.

Created using graphite and acrylic paints on 50 x 33 cm cardboard.

Shikata Ga Nai

My thoughts and emotions in one place after a long draining conversation not being able to sleep, part of me still thinking about the delusive options I did not have. This painting was the remedy.

I FOUND MY PATH

Life Can Only Be Understood Backwards

– Søren Kierkegaard

Everything we consume shapes us, defines us, changes us. We are all on this never-ending chase of infinite happiness, navigating through infoxication and trying to make only the right decisions hoping that everything might make sense at the end of the road. And then there is the moment in life when everything fits together, looking like a path you have been searching for all this time. The path is new, never walked, still chaotic, but it’s yours.

So, start walking.

Created using acrylics and 3D pen on 59 x 39 cm board.

RED ROSE

In ancient Greece, the rose was closely associated with the goddess Aphrodite.

Following the Christianization of the Roman Empire, the rose became identified with the Virgin Mary. The Carthusians promoted the idea of sacred mysteries associated with the rose symbol and rose gardens.

The Sufi mystic’s quest for divine love aligns the rose with the divine names and attributes.

Sometimes a rose is simply a rose.

Created using mixed media on 50 x 70 cm wooden board.

Bought by a private collector.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

In the sea of unspoken words there is her ocean. There is a fierce force trying to silence her voice, until it’s sweet like a pastel mint or small and cute like baby pink. It is done over and over and over again… Violently, jokingly, playfully, forcibly. She is ignored, shouted down, disqualified, critiqued.

And still, she is red and black. She speaks.

Created using acrylics on 70 x 50 cm canvas.
